  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sauté diced green bell pepper and onion for about 5 minutes until softened. Set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until fully combined.
  4. Press half of the meat mixture into the bottom of a loaf pan evenly.
  5. Layer four slices of provolone cheese over the meat mixture followed by the sautéed peppers and onions.
  6. Top with the remaining meat mixture and press down gently to seal edges.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes; in the last 5 minutes of baking, add remaining provolone slices on top until melted.
  8. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing; garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
