  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • pinch salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cream softened butter and dark brown sugar until smooth; add egg, maple syrup, vanilla, and maple extract.
  3. Mix in dry ingredients until just combined; fold in chopped pecans.
  4. Chill the dough for at least 2 hours before baking.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll chilled dough into balls and bake for 12-13 minutes until edges are lightly browned.
  7. Cool on sheets before transferring to wire racks; drizzle with maple icing.
